Every single bright object in this image is an entire galaxy (seperate stars are not visible from this distance. Each of these galaxies contain several hundred million, to billions of individual stars.
This photograph is called the Hubble Deep Field, because they contain the farthest objects we have ever discovered. One of the red dots in the middle is the farthest object ever photographed. It's at a distance of 13,4 billion light years, which means that we currently see it as it was only several 100 million years after the big bang.
